Is It Worth The Time And Effort To Market On Twitter?

By Henry Taylor

Several years ago, there was a great promotion for Twitter marketing tools. It was believed that Twitter was one of the most effective ways to grow a list and to get folks to purchase the products you are advertising. Nevertheless, how much of a bang for your buck do you get from any of these tools that were pushed at us to improve our sales figures? In this article, we will discuss Twitter marketing and if it is even worth it for you to get into it.

Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help online marketers build a huge Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to check out. I ended up paying for and signing up for programs that would get me followers and programs that would essentially advertise my products for me. By the time I was done, I'd spent money on something like eight programs to do some of the grunt work involved in Twitter marketing.

One of these software tools was an automatic 'people follower' on Twitter with the objective that some of those people would follow me also. Next there was the Twitter marketing tool that would un-follow individuals who were not following me. Deleting non-followers meant I could devote my attention on other people who might be swayed to follow me. Amongst other Multi Level Marketing software I purchased, there was one which automatically tweeted a blog post just as soon as it was posted to my blog.

In the beginning, I was truly happy with the end results after using the programs in combination because they truly delivered on what they promised. But as soon as it appeared that I wasn't making any money, my initial excitement was soon dampened. Every day I would post roughly ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be displayed on Twitter too. Then I found a way to have all the posts done for me automatically, believing that the more posts I would have the more Twitter users who would see them.

Now allow me to tell you all about my results. In three years, I was able to have a Twitter following of moreo r less 10,000 individuals. You might be really happy to gain that number of followers, but there's more to come. In the same 3 year period, my Twitter account gathered more than 15,000 blog posts that had links to my affiliate promotions.

Besides that, I did no other promotion for that blog, in fact I didn't even ping the new blog entries to see how good Twitter was could be. Well I discovered, in the last 3 years I pulled in 2 affiliate sales for a total of $48, and I pulled in $8.52 with Adsense. And that specific blog only gets about 2 to 4 visitors daily from Twitter.

In short, having almost ten thousand followers on Twitter using all these tools will not give you the results you are looking for. At the end of the day I'm now out of pocket for the Twitter marketing tools I invested in because my dollar return was so small. So from my perspective, while there may be good ways to advertise on Twitter, using the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
