A Guide To Creating A Glass Sculpture Alberta

By Alyce Powell

One of the most delicate yet most difficult forms of sculpting would be glass sculpting because it is a form where in one will be susceptible to all kinds of wounds and small cuts. However, there are artists who do not mind getting themselves cut a little bit as long as they can make a beautiful glass sculpture Alberta. If one belongs to this criteria of artist, then he should definitely go into this kind of thing.

Since one is going to be vulnerable to sharp shards and pieces of glass, then safety would definitely be a priority with this. He will actually be needing a lot of safety equipment and a lot of building equipment before he starts. Before starting, one will need to buy some goggles, thick gloves, a kiln, graphite paddles, and a torch.

The first thing that one should do would be to put on the goggles, the gloves, and wear some long sleeves so that he will be fully protected. Although it is optional, one should probably wear an apron because he will be getting some hot shards on him. If one thinks that he is safe enough, then he may light up the torch already.

After the torch has been lit up, then the dangerous part will come because he will be playing with fire. What he should do is that he should point the torch a little bit at a small piece of glass shard and make sure that it melts just a little bit. If it is already quite soft, then one may actually manipulate it to create a ball.

The next thing to do would be to create the base by using some graphite paddles. Now before one would create the actual sculpture, one should first create the base so that the figure will have something to stand on. The graphite paddles are the things that will be used in order to make the base properly.

When that is done, continue to make a few more balls in order to shape up the base and make it sturdy. After that has been made, then the next thing to do would be to concentrate on making the figure next. To start off, one must first preheat the kiln because he will use it later on.

Once the kiln has already been heated, then the next step would be to use some tweezers in order to manipulate the hot pieces of glass. While the tweezers are used for pulling the pieces to manipulate them, the graphite poles will be used once again to straighten the figure. When the figure has already been created, place it in the kiln for it to form.

When it is already done, one must put it on the kiln and slowly decrease the fire every hour by ninety degrees. This will allow the glass sculpture Alberta to harden and not crack. After it is already significantly hard, one may take it out of the kiln and just allow it to cool off.
