Your Vet Can Diagnose A Dog Illness Quickly And Effectively

By Geraldine Dimarco

We love our pets - no question about that. Do we understand them? Not unless your last name is Doolittle, not really. Animals only have their barks and gestures to express themselves, so it is important that responsible pet owners have a working knowledge of symptoms that will help us diagnose a dog illness as accurate as possible.

As we continue to learn more about this topic, you will notice that several conditions are actually easily treatable. You would not even need medication but only natural remedies for dogs to address them. Natural remedies are preventive as well as curative - saving you plenty of dollars of costly drugs and fees. Not only that, you will also save your pet from incessant chemicals in his system that will probably damage his system in the long run.

Perhaps the most annoying thing our canines have to deal with are fleas and ticks. Of course, fleas are not a disease in itself; but they have been known to be carriers of harmful infections causing heart, liver and neurological problems. Lyme disease and heartworms are a few diseases that are caused by ticks.

The solution is pretty simple - bathe and groom your pet regularly. Use citrus sprays and essential oils over his bedding and your furniture. Run a fine tooth flea comb over his fur often, especially during the summer months. To soothe spots where the flea has bitten your dog, mix equal amounts of tea tree oil and water and apply this ointment over his hot spots.

Monitor your dog for any physical and behavioral changes. Fever (temperature above 102 degrees Fahrenheit), appetite loss, extreme tiredness, shaking and loss of balance call for an immediate trip to the vet. You will need to take note of when these signs started manifesting and other unusual characteristics you may have noticed?this will help your vet gain a more accurate diagnosis.

Watch out for excessive thirst or frequent urination of the animal. Many times this has been a symptom of internal complications the dog?s immune system is attempting to correct. Any discharge in the eyes, ears and nose, especially if they are green tinged, may imply respiratory problems that need medical attention. A nutritional diet rich with vitamins and minerals are the most effective natural remedies for dogs.

Nutrients that boost the dog's immune system include Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Omega fatty acids and Zinc. These have antibacterial properties that promote healthy white blood cells, energy production and encourage resistance. A raw food diet with the freshest ingredients is a good source of these minerals.

It is also essential that the canine receives adequate rest and exercise for good health. Moderate physical activities will keep his cardiovascular and circulatory functions in its peak performance. Observe carefully though; if your pet seems always sleepy and lethargic, he may be in the throes of some sickness that you must not aggravate with exercise.

You can always attempt to diagnose a dog illness the best way you know how; but always check with your vet for verification. Maintain a good diet and a clean living environment for your pet.
