By George Dodson

Having to do a job which involves the outdoors is something that many people are looking to have. Depending solely on the job that you like, you can find numerous jobs related to outdoors. Among those are hunting. How do you go about establishing hunting as a career?

This has a few approaches available. You can start out this career by working at hunting outlets or stores that provide equipment and gears for hunting. This job is really good for you if you're looking for more information about hunting and if you want to know of people who can help you with this sport or activity.

You can also consider becoming a hunting guide. This can also be approached differently. If you have the experience in firearms and hunting skills, you can open up your own guide business. People with less experience will come barging in with offers.

Another way is to sign up for a guide school. Being trained by actual hunting professionals will provide you with better chances of getting good paying hunting related jobs. Your hunting skills will be polished. There are a lot of new information and skills to know about. You'll find books, reports and other documentations to back these up. Then you can establish your own guide program and probably be more successful at it.

Being a white tail deer guide can also be a good option to start from for your hunting career. You will learn special skills involving hunting Whitetail deer. However, your skills can only be limited to hunting the whitetail and not the other animals. For that reason you would need special skills.

In these hunting guide programs, you'll learn such skills as horsemanship. That is important since many of the areas that customers want to go require getting there on horseback. You'll need to understand trail riding. Some trails can be rather treacherous and you need to have both the confidence and the skills to help others in this area.

Another vital skill is orienteering. You should be able to tell which trail to take using a mere compass or GPS. This would include a keen observation of your surroundings and trails, reading a map and finding directions. This is a must-have for any hunting guide.

Another vital skill that you need if you're going to be a hunting guide is survival training. You can find that there are many possible things that can happen during a hunt. At altitudes around 8 to 9000 feet and higher, the weather tends to produce quick snowstorms. You should be able to come up with a counter whenever faced with challenges. That involves taking shelter building a fire and perhaps contacting help if needed.

You'll definitely need to know first aid. Having to provide first aid should be something that you can just do in an instant anytime. There are different types of wounds and you should be able to treat them accordingly. This is extremely important in a honey environment. You will need to travel a few places by foot without the help of vehicles or horses. You will need to be able to counter a problem such as an injury or accident along the way.
