How To Do Wood Floor Refinishing

Wood floor refinishing jobs are carried out in order to bring it back to former glory. If you have enough time and skills to carry out this work, there is no need to hire expert companies for these jobs. Before carrying out this process, estimate on costs, material needed and time. However if you think the process is complicated, it is time to hire an expert company.

One needs pay attention on details to be able to refinish their floor in the right way. Using drum sanders sand the wooden flooring material. Then use a belt sander to finish sanding. You can hire this equipment from the local hardware. Before you start carrying this procedure, you need to have personal protective equipment such as dust mask. This is because this procedure will generate a lot of dust which can affect your body.

One needs skills to be able to control the sander. You have to ensure that the sanding material is on the move at all time. Despite the fact that sanders are noisy, they are easy to use. Since a lot of friction is created during sanding wooden floor, one has to make sure that sanding is evenly done to every space to avoid overdoing one area. This will give your flooring a perfect finish.

Home owner are always expected to remove carpet material used to cover a room that is to be worked on. Care should be exercised at this juncture since some carpets are fixed using glue so to avoid damaging them, care is a must. This particular step is important since removing the floor covering will expose the damages and necessary repair is done.

After that, use a sharp knife to scrap any padding on the flooring. While doing this, ensure that you are moving the knife in the direction of the wood grains. However be careful not to scratch and gouge the top layer. Remove the last shreds off the flooring. You also need staple pliers to remove staples used to fasten the planks. Staples left on the surface may cause injuries if not attended to.

The sanding procedure is carried out after removing wooden pads. Buy sanding materials from the local hardware. To finish the job well, buy three types of sanding materials grades, the 80, 150 and 220 grits. It is important to ask for user directions from the shop attendants. Start with the 80 then finish with the 220 grit papers. Make sure to do the sanding process in corners.

The sanding job results in debris and dust formation. To clean this, use vacuum cleaners and tacking cloths to clear them. Now repeat the sanding job a second time making sure to work on the corner and joints. Use tack clothes to clean debris. Use a rag to spread the staining mixture in circles. Finish this job quickly and follow the manufacturers directions. Use a standard buffer material after staining to ensure no stains are left on the flooring.

After that, using a mop rug spread a polyurethane mixture on top of the coat. It is advisable to start from one corner to another to have a nice finish. It is advisable to give polyurethane time to dry and apply a second coat. This will give your surface a good wood floor refinishing. Allow the surface three days to dry.
