Parents have known for a long time that the very best gift they can hope to give their children is a proper education at a reputable institution. Many studies have shown that the upkeep of government schools is a very big problem. Buildings are not maintained properly, bathrooms are a disgrace and sports fields are unkempt because there is simply not enough money in the budget to conduct proper maintenance programs. Students and faculty alike are demotivated when they have to make do with dilapidated facilities. Of course, this demotivation only leads to even lower standards and achievements.
Government schools are underfunded and overburdened. They have to make do with old facilities that are poorly maintained. There is simply not enough money to stay up to date with the latest technological advances. Most of these schools are badly overcrowded and teachers have to cope with classes so large that it becomes impossible to pay individual attention to students or to offer remedial classes to those struggling to keep up.
Discipline in schools has shown an alarming downward trend. Violence perpetrated by learners is becoming commonplace. Drug and alcohol abuse is becoming an enormous issue. Teachers find it difficult or even impossible to take charge in the classroom. There have even been incidents of violence against teachers. It goes without saying that a serious lack of discipline will have a negative impact on the quality of the educational system.
Many parents are not involved with the schooling their children receive. In some cases they simply cannot be bothered, but many others are simply too busy to become involved with the school. This is especially the case in poorer areas where parents have to hold down more than one job to keep the wolves from the door. If parents are not involved, the school suffers.

This can only be achieved if sufficient resources are made available and if a calm, productive learning atmosphere is created.
