Create A New Look With New Jersey Gates

By Kenya Campos

There is nothing more satisfying than working on a project around the home or garden. Many people love to spend some of their free time making improvements to their property. Not only does this add to their enjoyment, but it also adds to the value of the residence. Before getting started there are many choices to make and this can actually be one of the most difficult parts of the entire project.

It does not matter weather someone lives in a town or in the country, having a well fenced yard is just as important. It not only keeps pets and small children contained, but it also keeps other people and wandering animals out. Installing a new fence with secure New Jersey gates is crucial to safety and peace of mind.

Giving a back yard a theme is now very popular. Many people love the look and feel of an Asian inspired yard. This may include a small water feature, carefully placed furniture and fencing with soft lines. Having a gate custom made to work with the overall look is a great idea. This can be designed to match the height of the fencing and be made of complementary materials that will blend right in.

The type of latch or fastener used on the gate is also important. If the home is located in an urban area then having a lock is usually the best idea. This allows the family to lock the gate from the inside and know that the children are secure. The lock should be fitted high enough on the gate to prevent the children reaching it and letting themselves out.

A local craftsman or blacksmith is the best person to consult when looking for an iron gate. They will have lots of suggestions and can show the home owner some of their work. For example, those who love horses may include real horse shoes in the design. A flower lover can have the metal worked into intricate petal shapes that reflect the rest of their garden.

Most pre made wood panel fences come in standard heights of three to six feet. The final choice will be determined by factors such as local zoning regulations, need for privacy and cost. A lower fence will still contain pets and children but not prevent conversation between neighbors.

The gate should also be secured from the inside at all times. Parents should ensure that the children cannot reach the lock or let themselves out. No one on the outside of the yard should be able to open the gate either. The most simple solution is a bolt fastener. These can be purchased at any hard ware store and installed in seconds.

A wrought iron gate is a classic piece that never goes out of fashion. Many homes have them as they are easy to install and maintain. About once a year they will benefit from a fresh coat of paint. Many people today favor a black gloss finish that complements any type of fence from wood to laminate. If they ever decide to move it is also possible to take the gate with them to their new home.
