Tips On Selecting The Best Basketball Plays For Your Team

By Jashua Moses

As you know, if you are a youth basketball coach, it is one of the most rewarding and exciting jobs that you can take part in. There are many aspects of the game that you can teach to young players, as well as the life skills that will stay with the team for many years to come. However, besides the character building skills that they will learn, you also need to teach them the basketball plays that will turn them into a winning team. Here are some of the things to consider:

First and foremost the coach needs to have a good understanding of each position on the floor and specifically the capabilities of their players within those positions. Take for example the center. Two of the main jobs of a center is to defend the rim and to grab rebounds, but if the center is below average at rebounding then the coach will need to make adjustments to compensate for this.

Footwork - footwork drills are something that can be taught from a young age, and something that can be developed as the players age. These skills are vital for a successful team, and they will be the foundation of a good player. You can setup drills that focus on stopping quickly on the court, as well as pivoting on the spot. These are directly transferable to the court.

Coaching is a very rewarding job. However, you do have to put the time into it to make it worth it for both yourself and your team. Take the information above to heart, and go out and have a great time!

As the coach, you are in a unique position to help a large number of players. Take that responsibility seriously, and look for plays and drills that will benefit your players. In addition, do not forget about teaching them essential life skills at the same time!

Triple threat - this can be done with a number of players during a training session. It will show players how to get into triple threat positions whenever one players catches the ball. Use the plays and drill listed above as a basketball coach, and you will find the team improving and having fun.
