How To Create Family Genealogy Websites

By Edward Long

As a human being, people are naturally curious and one area of curiosity are the questions of who their ancestors are and where they came from. You may have always wondered if your family are native to the area or some of them came from other countries. Knowing these mysteries may help you understand why you look the way you do and the prevalent characteristics your family members have.

The older and harder way of knowing these is by asking your elders and parents, and grandparents if they are still alive, on information regarding the names of your ancestors and their history. But these process becomes easier now thanks to the internet and family genealogy websites available for people to use. Records are more accessible now so researching becomes much easier and can be done any time.

Start making the family tree or genealogy with information regarding yourself and immediate family members of yours. The basic information that must be included will be the names, birth dates, birth place, civil status and info about their parents and children. You could ask for more information if making a comprehensive history of your family is your goal.

Ask these questions to your relatives as soon as possible and write them down immediately to prevent forgetting the answers and having to ask them again. Question older relatives first as we may never know how long they have left to live. They are also a great source of data that you may not be able to find from anyone else and might never know in any other ways.

In an unfortunate event that you are unable to ask them on time, there are different sources usable although researching them could possibly become harder. Old records may be found and can be used as a source of information needed. Public records are another source as well that you can take advantage of when you are able to get a hold of them.

The best way in getting the information you want is by not asking direct questions. Let them share some anecdotes of the old times they have and doing this is a helpful way of making them remember things. Chances that forgotten tales might me recalled during their sharing of old stories.

You could also use general search engines in helping you with your research. Use them effectively by adding words such as genealogy so that false hits will likely be eliminated and only show sites that have this word in their pages. Although there is a chance that web pages containing useful data regarding your family could not be shown because of this so be careful.

Adding the name of a place is another way of narrowing the search results and increasing the chances in finding useful info. Search events that happened on that place and its history may give you info that you need. Try searching for different words and you may be surprised that there are topics available on those things which may assist you in your quest.

You can also keep your findings and record the details by making a website. The progress might be seen by others doing the same research and might be related with you as well. These would make your research easier by having more people helping you with it.
