Visit The Hacienda Iguana Nicaragua

By Lana Bray

If you are planning a trip to South America then Hacienda Iguana Nicaragua is the place for you. It is located right on the beach, which is perfect if you love to surf or if you just want to laze around gazing at the surf with attentive bar staff nearby to keep you refreshed. There is also a golf course right outside the front door.

Belonging to the reptilian Family Iguanidae, the iguana is an herbivorous (that's reptile-speak for vegetarian) lizard that lives in Central America and Mexico. From the end of its tail to the tip of its nose, it measures between four and six feet long. Along its dorsal side it sports a row of spines. This structure is known as a dewlap. It also has a parietal eye, a third eye in between its two 'normal' eyes.

Present in other species of animal including frogs, tuna and certain species of shark, the function of the parietal eye is to detect and interact with light. While it bears both a lens and retina, it functions differently from a typical mammalian eye. Evidence from the fossil record indicates that certain now extinct species of reptile bore a parietal eye. These include some of the dinosaurs.

One of the places where this charming reptile may be located is in the Central American nation of Nicaragua. Located on a tiny Isthmus separating the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the country shares a border with Honduras to the north and to Costa Rica to the south. Plans are currently under way to construct a massive canal, bigger even than the one at Panama. It is expected that the funding for this project will come from sources in China.

The country sits neatly within the tropics between 11 and 14 degrees north of the equator. The equator is a make-believe line of latitude that separates the northern hemisphere from the southern hemisphere. The tropics is an area bounded by lines of latitude 23.4 degrees north and south of the equator.

The southern boundary of the tropics is called the Tropic of Capricorn and the northern border is known as the Tropic of Cancer. This region is a magnet for tourists because of its amazingly pleasant climate. During every month of the year, the temperature goes above a comfortable 64 degrees F. This explains why so many people flock to hacienda iguana nicaragua every year.

A movie that featured an Iguanidae was released in 1964. It was based on the play of the same name written by the well-known playwright, Tennessee Williams. The film starred Deborah Kerr, Ava Gardner and Richard Burton. One of the film's supporting actresses, Grayson Hall, won the academy award that year for her role in the film. Grayson later went on to star in the popular cult daytime drama serial, Dark Shadows. No reptiles were harmed in the making of this movie. It is unclear whether the film featured hacienda iguana nicaragua.

Hacienda iguana nicaragua is located on the Central American Isthmus in the tropics. When you go to hacienda iguana nicaragua, keep an eye out for the mighty lizard. If you love golfing, surfing or lazing on the beach sipping cocktails, consider visiting hacienda iguana nicaragua.
