A List Of The Top Fire Department Training Ideas

By Tiffany Gill

When one is a firefighter, it is very important that he is always on his toes because there could be a situation just any minute and he might need to go into action right away. That is why it is very important for the fire department to always have some good fire department training ideas so that the firefighters will always be alert. Here are some of the ideas that are really good for keeping firefighters alert.

One of the most common of these training ideas would actually be the fire drill. The thing about drills like these is that they come by surprise which means no one knows whether it is a real situation or just a drill. This type of surprise drill will be able to help the firefighters be able to be alert at all times.

In order to give juniors some practice, what a lot of departments would do is that they would burn down houses that owners would want to dispose of anyway. They do it for free and they would let their juniors practice the basic techniques on this house. Of course this is a controlled fire situation which means that the seniors know how to extinguish it just in case the juniors are not able to.

Now there would be times where the fire department would be working with the police and the paramedics in order to conduct mock disasters. It is important that one will have presence of mind when such situations will arise. Also, one must learn how to work as a team with other departments that is why one will be working with these other two entities.

Of course there are also very specific training programs so that one will be able to work more efficiently. There is what is known as the adapter drill where in one will have to attach a hose to the adapter in a short span of time. There are different hoses of different lengths given to the trainee and the trainee must fit all of them to the adapter quickly.

Now it is also very important for firefighters to be able to put on a uniform really quickly. Since a lot of them would probably not be in uniform or in gear when there is a situation, it is important to know how to put these things on really fast when there is an emergency. Seniors would be timing on juniors on how long they actually take.

Of course firefighters in general are also given regular trivia tests to see how well they remember basic concepts. Usually the questions are situational questions where in the tester would ask fighters what they would do in a certain situation. This is to test their knowledge and see how well they would react in a circumstance.

So in order to keep firefighters alert and awake, these fire department training ideas were invented. Now these are not the only programs that departments would give. However, these are the common ones and the ones proven to be good for each of the firefighters when it comes to improving alertness and reflexes.
