Advantages Of Using Asphalt As A Paving Material

By Marcie Raymond

There are many materials that can be used for paving driveways and roads and one of them is asphalt. Asphalt has become one of the most commonly used materials for construction of suburban, urban and rural roads due to its ability to cope with any form of traffic. This article therefore looks at the many advantages of using asphalt for road construction.

One of the reasons why contractors prefer asphalt is using it makes the work shorter time to be completed. In many cases, one day or two days is enough to finish construction. On top of this, the laid surface hardens faster than it would normally do if concrete or any other substance was used. The surface can take 2 to 4 days to dry especially in cold weather and it can be used after that.

Another benefit of this material is does not experience cracks more often as a concrete surface would. The reason why concrete surfaces experience is because the material is not flexible. Contractors are therefore forced to put central joints on a road to reduce this cracking. However, when tarmac is used, this is minimized since this substance is flexible.

For people who love protecting the environment, they should know that this material is completely recyclable. Therefore using it rather than concrete will ensure they protect the non renewable resources in the environment. Other than this, it does not flake on the surface as compared to concrete; flaking usually results when a surface is not laid well.

Maintenance is an important aspect when it comes to drive ways and even roads. It ensures that the surfaces have an increased lifespan. This task is therefore made easier when this material is used in construction as compared to other products. This is because it is easier to open the surface, do the repairs and then replace it back with minimal disturbance to the traffic.

The other benefit of using this product is its cost efficiency. In all projects be they small or big, cost is usually a major factor and people are always looking for all ways to cost save. Using asphalt will therefore enable people to save on money since this product is cheaper in the end as compared to concrete. People will thus be able to work within the budget they have set.

Yet another benefit is with this substance on a surface, there is a higher level of skid resistance. This means that cars are less likely to skid in bad weather conditions and thus ensuring road safety. There is also the fact that when riding on such surfaces, there is less noise both on the inside of the car and also on the outside.

These reasons among many other is what has made asphalt used more by paving contractors as compared to other existing materials. Producers are keeping up to date with their improvements ensuring that the product remains relevant and in use for a long time. But persons must always keep in mind that even though the cost of using this substance is lower, its repair can be increased when a surface is neglected or not properly maintained.
