In addition to that, the personal details of the requesting individual have to be indicated on the request form. The state only releases the document if the one who requested the file is the divorcees themselves or their immediate family.

In order to request for a copy of a divorce certificate in the state of Virginia, one has to go to the office of the Vital Records Section at the Department of Health. This is where all of the pubic documents of the state are being kept. In cases where the records are not available in the state office, one may need to visit the local county clerk office where the divorce was registered. The office also accepts mailed in requests, however it may take a while before the result of the search can be obtained. This can be delayed even more if the requirements are not complete in the mail request.
