Why Buy A Condo Instead Of A House?

By Emmett Vickers

Owning a home can be an appealing prospect, with many advantages, but not everyone is in the market to make a big investment on a large, multi-level home. Some prefer simplicity, and these people often find themselves veering more towards a condominium than to a house. There are certain advantages that come with buying a condo, which will be examined here.

The first advantage that condos offer is in the way of amenities. Condos are often built in small communities with a range of services and shared spaces that the residents are free to use, some of which you might not find if you bought a traditional home. Many condos have a swimming pool, allowing you to enjoy the water and sun without having to pay the upkeep on your own pool. Some communities have a theater area, where residents can enjoy movies together on weekends. Many areas also have clubhouses that the residents are able to rent for parties and events at a discounted price.

Security - Most condos are in gated communities, so you'll likely feel especially secure living there. There are often doormen and locked entries all around the condo property, so those who don't live there can't come and go as they please. And, since condo units are generally close together, you'll be living much nearer to people than you would if you were in a single-family home. This means you have people to turn to if there's an emergency, especially if you live alone.

Many condo complexes employ professionals to maintain the grounds and assist the homeowners with repairs and maintenance. People with a busy life and little time to spare often find their help incredibly valuable. There are usually several workers on the grounds who keep the greenery well-maintained and can be contacted to help out with home repair. If you don't like or are not skilled at do-it-yourself projects, their help can a godsend.

Certain financial experts agree that purchasing a condo is often more affordable in the long run than buying a full-size home. This often makes an appealing option for younger professionals buying a property for the first time, but can't afford a larger home at the moment. Many retired couples often look to condos when they have no more children living at home and want a simpler lifestyle.
