Tips For Indiana Fundraising Events

By Gwen Lowe

There is just never enough money for all the projects that people want to do. It may be a school, church or local museum that want to add more programs and extra activities to their schedule. But finding the money for these is often not in their budget. Running some Indiana fundraising events is often the only way to generate some extra cash to make the events possible. This is especially true for small local groups that may not receive any government funding.

Virtually every school has a parent teacher organization that is devoted to raising money for a variety of causes. This may be sports trips and equipment, new books for the library or updated play ground equipment. Many of the events are organized by the parents and may only bring in a small amount of money.

Small groups and organizations rely on many different ways to raise money. In some ways this offers a lot of scope for creativity. The sky really is the limit and many people really enjoy helping out. They can organize a huge yard sale, sell hot dogs, bake cookies and wash cars. These are all time honoured and reliable ways to make some quick cash.

Planning does take quite a long time and is the most crucial factor. Enough people need to be involved to make any event a success. Some of the volunteers are happy in the background and are perfect for the set up stage. They also like to be involved in the administrative stages. It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to make any event successful.

Larger organizations need to raise even more money. This can often involve a very different approach. They often turn to local businesses and corporations for sponsorship and donations. This can be a great way of getting money and is especially effective if the organization has a link to a member of the management team at the local business.

Keeping clear lines of communication open are very important. Once the initial contact has been made it is vital to stay in touch and talk regularly with potential sponsors. Every company is busy and a lack of response does not mean they are not interested, but often just that the timing was wrong. Getting a first appointment set up is often the most difficult step.

A range of foods is also great. Families will usually be looking for inexpensive food that is fast and filling. Hot dogs and pizza are great as they can be purchased in bulk from many of the discount wholesale outlets. Desserts can often be home made, cookies and cup cakes are always well received.

After all the hard work it is very important to see the money being spent wisely. This again should be a team effort with all parties having a say in what happens. After all those who have put in so much work and effort want to have input into the spending.
