By Bill Duggen

Great distances from home to work often lead to one stressful obligation - a long commute. The longer commuting hours you would have to endure only means that your destination is farther away. This fate should be accepted should you be in a position to need money or really need to make a living.

One common thing that is brought about by long commutes for many people is the insufficient amount of sleep or bed rest. Having to spend time with your family requires enough hours at work, having to use the remaining time for sleep is no longer easy if you still have to deal with a long commuting hours.

Having to undergo long commutes from work to your home is inevitable especially if you cannot afford a fast car that can take you anywhere you want to go in just a matter of minutes. The best thing that you can do in such a situation is to rest your body and body while also trying to keep everything active. So how exactly would you keep yourself busy during a long commute?

Among the common ways on how to deal with a long commute to work or towards home is to read a book. Reading a book will further enhance your knowledge and will draw your attention away from the time. At the end of your reading, you'd be surprised you're already at the bus stop.

Another good way for you to buy time whenever taking long commutes is to do the common thing that kids do - play games over their phone or gadget. While many may not be very fund of games over devices, it can be very much helpful in keeping your thoughts distracted and thus keeping you less stressed. If you want your games or apps to be more interesting, you can download top apps and games over the online market and compete with friends.

Do you want to earn a bit of cash while you travel from home to work and vice versa? If your English is good then you can opt for article or blog writing. When you are sitting and not doing much, your mind tend to become more active. In this scenario, article or blog writing would be the best thing that you can do. Topics you can write about may cover a lot of things like experience in doing long commutes, how to make money, what presents to buy for your wife in your anniversary, etc. Writing is not only a great way to do something worth while but it also opens doors to profits.

Although many would not venture for this last tip, it is recommended that one should practice his or her social skills. Talking with fellow-passengers has been the usual thing that commuters do. I know this would require skill as well as enough confidence however it is actually easier than it would sound. The only hard part in socializing is how to start the conversation. Of course, you will need to ensure that the topic is meaningful as well as interesting to draw the attention of your listener. And again before you talk to that person beside you, check out his or her mood if he or she is in the mood for a talk.
