Why Cranes Should Undergo Thorough Testing By A Crane Inspection Company

By Heidi Carver

When working with heavy equipment, safety is always a primary concern. The number of accidents involving heavy duty machinery has reached an all time high, so the need for constant maintenance and inspection has been deemed a must. If you have heavy duty machinery such as cranes, then you should consider taking them to a crane inspection company in Tennessee. If you do, you do not only save the lives of workers, you also save money, time and effort in having to put things back in order after an unfortunate accident.

Cranes are one of the basic equipments in most construction, shipping, and cargo tasks. It is a machine that functions mainly to assist in lifting heavy materials and placing them from place to place. There are three main types of this machinery, which are the overhead kind, the mobile kind, and the fixed kind.

An overhead crane can lift very heavy loads. There are models whose maximum lifting capacity reaches an astounding nine hundred tons. Included in this group are stacking type and industrial type. These types feature a traveling bridge that runs along two parallel runways.

Mobile types can be transported to areas where they are badly needed. One example is the mounted crane which is on a wheeled carrier for optimum mobility. Side lift kinds transport ISO standard containers. Aerial kinds are helicopters designed to lift large loads. Floating kinds are special barges that can lift up to ten thousand tons and can transport even sections of bridges.

Fixed models are exact opposites of the mobile counterparts. One most common example is the tower crane, which is fixed to the ground in the entire duration of its use. They are often used in the construction of tall buildings and offers the perfect combination of height and lift capacity.

These machines do such intense tasks that they usually wear out often. Hence, a thorough testing on a regular basis has been enforced for every equipment. They require constant testing, operation and maintenance to keep them at their best performance.

Safety regulations require owners to have their equipment checked frequently, that is, daily to monthly inspections. Hooks, wire ropes and hoist chain inspections fall under this category. There are also complete inspections called as periodic ones that can be done annually, twice, or even four times per year. Daily inspections can be done by the operator, but periodic tests are usually done by expert inspectors.

Many people, however, can claim to be expert crane inspectors just because they work most of the time with this particular equipment. This should not be the case. When you get an inspector, make him produce proof such as certification and other important paper works.

So that you can be sure of the quality of inspection, it is highly recommended that you seek the assistance of inspection companies. They have been doing this undertaking for most of their time, so they know what to do and do it right. You can employ their services at competitive rates so you will be able to ensure of your safety at a lesser price.
