It Is Always Safety First When Using Hydraulic Hose Assemblies

By Arline Bradley

Hydraulic hoses differ from standard rubber hoses in the fact that they have a braided stainless steel sleeve within the outer sheath. This means that the hose can cope with much higher pressures. They also make use of couplings that are crimped on to ensure that there are no weaknesses in the system when they are in use.

These systems also have to be able to be disconnected very quickly so that they can be replaced or removed in such a manner that as little of the air pressure that has been built up within the system is lost. Hydraulic Hose assemblies are used quite a lot in the construction industry; and because they can be changed quickly and easily they can be used on the various tools that require this type of power without too much difficulty.

The industry that uses this type of assembly is continually modifying their equipment, which means that the hose manufactures have to meet new challenges. Some of these challenges can be easily met by the incorporation of new techniques. An example of this is when the hoses have to be a longer than normal. The Teflon tube is now being inserted to make the assembly able to cope with the higher pressures.

Due to all the reinforcement that is necessary to incorporate within these hoses, they are a lot heavier and sturdier than a standard hose. It is not only high pressures that they have to withstand, they also have to be capable of coping with high temperatures. This is due to the heat generated during such actions as the pumping of hydraulic fluids, and the physical movements required during such operations as drilling and hammering.

It is not uncommon to find cooling system is also built into these assemblies. But these bring problems of their own as the cooling fluid could possibly reach very high temperatures as well. This means that it is extremely important that a safety inspection takes place before any new assembly goes into operation.

Companies that manufacture hydraulic systems are continually developing stronger and more flexible products. They are making use of modern techniques and materials so that their systems become more efficient and adept in coping with new challenges. It is not uncommon to find the inner layer or components of these hoses being protected from extreme conditions by a synthetic rubber cover, being fitted over the reinforced hose.

The complete assembly is made up of the the hose and the fittings. To ensure that it all fits together securely, and in a manner that it will work efficiently, the assembly must be done by a specially trained professional. They will be practiced in the correct way to complete the assembly so as to avoid a situation where the fittings become disconnected from the hose whilst in operation and causing a serious injury to a user.

It is important to stress that these assemblies can be dangerous if installed, or operated, by unqualified personnel. Equal importance should be to make sure that these assemblies are are used within a shorter ranges as possible so as to maximize their operational life. The limits, and specifications to using these assemblies are defined by either the government or the relevant governing organizations.
