Make Your Own Chemical Free Cleaning Solutions

By Linda Ruiz

We all want our homes to be clean. You probably have been doing that by using the same harsh products for several years or maybe you buy the brands that are on sale. However, many of the products on the market today contain harmful and toxic ingredients. You can keep your house clean and your family safe by using a few basic ingredients that are easy to find in your home. Just make your own chemical free cleaning solutions.

Most of the products currently on the market, are dangerous and carry a label warning the user to not mix with other cleansers. The result of mixing certain chemicals with ammonia is that it produces chlorine gas, which is deadly. There are other unpleasant symptoms a person can suffer. These are dizziness, coughing, burning eyes or nose, and even fainting.

In addition to the warning labels, the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, have included household cleaning supplies as an indoor pollutant. The items all contain either dangerous chemicals, toxic solvents, and/or pesticides. When using them, symptoms such as fatigue, irritation of the nose, throat, and eyes, and headaches can be experienced immediately. They are short term but there can be long term effects that include respiratory disease, heart disease, and even cancer.

In response to the need for safe cleaning supplies, one company was started in 2001. Their success has led to the manufactures of large and well known brands to begin offering safer alternatives to their traditional products. Now consumers have a choice.

You as the consumer, now have the option of purchasing safe toxic free cleaning products at the store or you can make them yourself. There are a few basic ingredients required which you probably already have. These are, baking soda, white vinegar, lemons, olive oil, and salt. You can add to that some essential oil and castile soap and have everything you need to clean the entire house safely.

Here is one example of how safe and easy it is to make an all purpose cleaner. You can even have children help with this. Fill a glass jar with white vinegar but leave room at the top. Then add orange peels and let it sit for a few days. Once the orange scent has infused the vinegar, strain or pour into a spray bottle. It is ready for use on any type of surface or for any job. You can continue to add more orange peel and vinegar to the jar for a ready supply.

For the bathroom, using just baking soda and vinegar, you can have it sparkling and clean without using harsh chemicals. Let one cup baking soda and two cups vinegar fizz in your toilet. When the bubbles are gone, scrub with a brush and there you have a clean toilet bowel. Wipe down your shower by spraying two cups water mixed with one cup vinegar. If the vinegar smell bothers you, just add a few drops of essential oil.

You can find many more recipes for cleansers on the internet. They are all cheap and easy to make. It is also easier now to find products in the store using natural ingredients. You have a choice now, so make the healthy one.
