Details On Atlanta Roof Repair

By Andrew B. Spates

When it comes to fixing your top, it is important to always think safety first. Atlanta Roof Repair professionals recommend that you do not go fussing at the top trying to find where a leak is coming from especially when it is raining. You must also understand that there is no quick fix when it comes to the crown.

Before attempting to climb to the top, you will need to first take some precautions. Among the precautions to take will be to ensure that the shoes you are wearing have a rubber sole. For safety purposes, you should also not work alone. Call a friend or a colleague to help you out.

Take a garden hose and spray the entire crown. This is the fastest way to find the source of the leak. Experts however recommend that you do not do this during the winter season as it will increase your chances of slipping and falling.

You need to always keep your gutters clean at all times. A clogged gutter can often lead to a leak. When it is not cleaned, it causes the rain water to build up which will eventually lead to leaking.

Take good care of your ventilation at all times. When there is poor ventilation, a condition referred to as dry rot will start to take place. Unlike leaking, dry rot is not brought about by water damage. The main cause is poor ventilation within a residence, especially at the center of your roof.

Ice buildup is very common especially during the winter periods. In many homes, you will find that it has built up in the shingles, membranes and in the gutters as well. Prevent this from happening as once it builds up, it begins to cause an interior drop in the residence.

Ensure you fix the boots. Skylights and ice damping are often the root causes of leaking. However, when the rubber boots dry up, they will start to cause leaking. In order to fix the boots, you may have to remove the shingles first. Lay some tar under it and then replace the shingles.

If one is not well equipped to perform repairs, he is advised to always consider hiring a roofer. The contractor will be in a position to determine where the leak is and also find a way to fix it. He can also inspect the crown for other problems that could be present.
