Getting Into Preppers Groups May Not Be As Easy As You Might Think

By Iva Cannon

There are a lot of people, some of them living in the woods and others living right down the street from you. They have decided, for one reason or another, that they have to get away from the rest of the people and be by themselves. They may think the government is out to get them, so they store away a lot of water, food, first aid supplies as well as guns and ammunition. These people have decided to group together and others call them preppers groups.

Sometimes these people see natural disasters as a reason to pull themselves away from the larger world and become grouped together. Most of the time this is just a family and other times it is more than a family that gets together to defend themselves. The number of people getting together does not matter. They support each other with mutual respect.

The planning that goes into many of these groups can amaze an outsider, if they are ever to see it. Many of them will set up fairly elaborate systems of getting water into their compound or structure. Literally all of them will have gas powered generators. All of them will have bottled water if they do not have anything else. This water will be sanitized by certain chemicals to allow it to be stored for long periods.

There will be a lot of food. A good portion of their storage space will be taken up by dehydrated food that can supply them with all the subsistence they need for many months if not a year or longer. High in the carbohydrates and proteins they need for that active lifestyle they believe they are in for.

Once each group gets established, they very rarely recruit new members. The purpose of being off by themselves is that they have to protect what little they have from anyone else who is not a part of them. Very few will trade with each other because that would give away precious secrets they are ill prepared to give away.

People not wanting their guns and ammunition confiscated from them will comprise many of these groups. They will be the militant ones and be very defensive about everything they do. They claim they are protecting their second amendment rights and this may, in fact, be what they believe. Others are not as militant, preferring to do the same thing in a different way,

The ones who are not as militant, but still respects the second amendment are more open about their dealings. They will, however, still be secretive about everything going on in their compound or house or other structure they are using. This is to keep private what they need to keep close by and letting people in will only endanger that.

In short, when preppers discover disasters, whether natural or man made, they come together in a bond of preparation for the bad thing coming. They are not comfortable around other people who do not share their single minded attention to something that may be real or imagined. They combine resources, materials and knowledge hoping they have enough of whatever it takes to survive for a few more days, weeks, or months.
