Tips On Decatur Georgia Attic Animal Wildlife Proofing

By Dave L. Weglin

If animals are living in your attic, they can cause extensive damage to the plumbing, wiring and its structure. They can also become vectors of diseases. You can keep the loft of your property free from animal wildlife through consistent home maintenance. Decatur Georgia attic animal wildlife proofing involves performing routine inspections of the attic and the exteriors of your property and taking precautionary measures to ensure that animals do not make their homes in your loft.

Before you animal proof your loft, you should first ensure that there are no animals living in it. One of the signs that animals are living in an attic is noise such as rolling, scurrying and thumping. The other signs include gnawed boards, chewed wires, nests, droppings and holes to the exterior of the property, which appear to be chewed open,

If they notice that there are animals residing in their attics, homeowners should either trap and release them themselves or hire a wildlife control specialist to do this for them. Removing animals from a loft is crucial because the measures that are taken to animal proof it may keep them inside. If this happens, the animals can damage the loft further or die in it.

After removing the animals living in the garret, you should inspect the exteriors of your home for small holes and manmade openings like chimney pipes and soffit vents. In order to keep animals like squirrels, raccoons and rats out of your loft, you need to find and seal any holes in the exterior of your home. It is also important to check the soffit vents and ensure that their vent covers are firmly installed.

It is also important to seal any holes you find on the roof or close to the roof line using hardware cloth. If the soffit vents of your property lack vent covers, you should attach vent covers on them. If the vents of your loft have holes where an animal may crawl through, you may attach steel screens on them.

In some homes, the opening of the chimney is large enough to let animals enter the chimney. The best way to deal with this problem is installing a cap over the chimney. The cap should be of the right size so that it will not affect air flow. Homeowners can follow the instructions of the manufacturer to install the chimney cap or hire a contractor to install it.

The other important thing you need to do is to remove food sources from the exterior of your house. Make sure that all garbage cans are always tightly closed. If possible, you can keep the garbage cans inside a shed or your garage.
