First Aid Suvival Kit Planning

By Tammie Caldwell

No one plans on having an accident but regardless of the amount of planning and prevention, people still end up with cuts, bruises and sprained joints. When planning for preparedness, it is a good idea to stock your First Aid suvival kit so that it is ready for any occasion. Let's look at a few places where accidents happen, and emergencies need temporary medical attention.

Statistically, the home is where the most common accidents occur. Some are from negligence while others are simply unavoidable. Standard home injuries include burns from the stove or oven and need ointment to soothe the pain. Knives are sharpened to aid in preparing food and minor cuts often happen without warning. These need rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide and some bandage.

Survival games are a great way to spend time with friends and family and also a perfect place for accidents to happen. Every injury from broken bones to skinned elbows are a possibility for medical attention. With a lack of fresh, clean water to tidy up a wound, it is a good idea to make sure your kit has vacuum sealed wipes with antiseptic already included. They are sterile and easy to use and dispose of after use.

Military units have a Medic recruit, but many of the injuries occur when they are on the practice battlefield. Military emergency kits have additional items to help hold vital organs in place and set bones with long strands of gauze. Typical and topical antiseptics add to the mix along with band-aids, ointments and cleansers for sterilization of the wound.

Typical emergencies while traveling to and from work or school are not always life threatening but still need a supply of items to help tend the wounds. A travel kit even includes roadside flares to warn other vehicles there is a downed situation. It is also a good idea to keep a sleeping bad, or another type of blanket, in the vehicle to help prevent shock.

The corporate world typically has break rooms and lounges where people go take their regular breaks. This is also where people with injuries are taken to help keep them settled until an ambulance arrives. Even stroke and heart attack victims need some medical attention before the professionals arrive, and sometimes the only ingredient needs is some smelling salts.

Many people think of weddings as a festive event and never consider that accidents happen at these galas, too. Even funerals have a high rate of accidents when people are not watching where they step and end up turning an ankle. Skinned knees are not the only mishaps that occur at these moments in time when people are distracted by the importance of the event.

Accidents happen at any time, every day and without notice. However, the outcome is easier to handle when fully prepared for any injury with the proper cleaning agents, wound dressings and antiseptic. It is a good idea to have these items in a convenient travel kit where they are within reach in an emergency. When preparing for a travel weekend, finishing a project in the garage, or planning a weekend in the mountains, be sure you choose emergency supplies designed for the occasion.
