A gopher trap is one of the most reliable method to get rid of gophers. You should keep in mind that, the fact that gopher traps resemble mole traps, they are quite different. Therefore, do not confuse one with the other. Proper identification and consequent differentiation between the two traps is the key step to how to set a gopher trap. You need to successfully set traps to capture gophers. You must locate areas with highest infestation of gophers. Probably where they breed. If traps are set in lowly populated areas, you might be disappointed because of not trapping gophers. You should avoid setting your traps on the animals dirt hills. Dirt hills may signify the availability of these animals but bear in mind that, they use dirt hills as tunnels to push out excess dirt. When it comes to probing tunnels, consider using long objects. Long and straight tunnels are the best to set traps.

Once you have successfully located the main tunnels, consider digging down holes to the tunnels. The holes dug should be large enough to fit your choice of traps. Afterwards, you will need to set your traps inside the holes. The traps must be stabilized in a way that its hard to move them. Use several flags to mark the locations you have placed your traps. Remember to cover the traps with grass or dirt.

After you have set the traps, always remember to check them after some time. If you find any trapped gophers, remove them. Dig a pit whereby you can be disposing them. After you have removed the animal, remember to put up the trap again. Repeat this activity for a while until you stop seeing any more sign of gophers.

Pincer traps are considered the most effective traps. They should be properly set inside tunnels where gophers feed. As clearly stated, the tunnels are the best sites to set the traps. It is easy to carry around these Maccabee pincer traps inside your pockets.

Always remember to monitor your garden or yard. If the gopher menace reoccurs again, be sure to follow these steps. Monitoring is very important because you will be able to prevent the growth of a large population of gopher. Note that, it is easier to monitor small populations compared to large populations.
