By Adam Bright

How did countries arrive at their modern flags? Some have, in their designs, gone beyond basic colors and patterns and thought more globally. Take a look at National Flags that have been designed artistically unique and, as a result, full of life and tradition.

Brazil's national flag is iconic in its blue, green and yellow colours, and is often waved at sporting events or depicted on fashionable clothing items. The Bandeira do Brasil, as the banner is known in Portuguese, was created by Raimundo Teixeira Mendes, and was adopted in its unique structure as the nation's national banner in 1889. Mendes was helped by Miguel Lemos, Manuel Pereira Reis and Dcio Villares. The green "field" of the banner is involved by a yellow rhombus. Interestingly, the colours of the Brazilian flag are not specified in any sort of legal document. This is usually done to ensure continuity and a level of integrity to the national flag. This means that, when printing flags or items that carry the flag, designers are free to use colours that are simply close approximations to the original.
