How A Geneva Chiropractic Office Helps Relieve Lower Back Pain

By Carmella Isenhour

In studies done on the topic of chiropractic care, it has been found a successful way to alleviate pain in the lumbar spine. It is the most common location for back pain. It can be the result of heavy lifting or a herniated disc. The cause is determined by a prominent Geneva chiropractor before care can begin.

The features of chiropractic care that make it popular are that it is non-invasive and does not use medication to simply mask the symptoms. One method used is spinal adjustments to align any of the vertebral subluxations that exist. When one of these small, hollow bones is out of place it might press against a nerve, which leads to agonizing pain.

The focus of care is the spinal column and the nerves that lie along it. A person has thirty-three small bones called vertebrae that make up the spine. Some at the base of the spine are fused. Most are individual and separated by small discs that provide cushioning during movement.

Numerous research studies have confirmed the efficacy of spinal adjustments in combating back pain in the lumbar area. A thorough evaluation is done during an initial office appointment before these adjustments are recommended. If deemed appropriate, they are administered during a series of appointments.

Goals will be determined taking into consideration the client's age, his or her general health status, and how severe the pain is. Each person has an individualized care plan. No two are exactly alike due to each person being unique.

The client is asked to participate in his own care plan if possible. Some things he can do is follow a customized exercise plan at home between appointments. There are other things he can do to promote improvement.

When the excruciating pain is under control, maintenance care will keep it that way. Newly gained improvement continues over a long time period in most cases. It is advisable to monitor the client's condition with regular check-ups. This is called wellness care.
