The Eligibility Requirements For HUD Housing

By Charles Rogers

Having a house to live comfortably in is a basic need for every human being. The government established the HUD housing department to ensure that those in need have a roof over their heads. Those who are catered for in this program are the poor people who earn below average, the elderly and the physically challenged people. To qualify for this program, one must meet some qualifications that you need to meet. This is done to keep away freeloaders and untrustworthy people.

The first thing that the officials want to see is the amount of money you earn monthly to see if you are really in need of housing support. The program is strictly aimed at helping low-income earners, which means that you have to earn below the minimum wage to be eligible for this facilities. Low-income earners are divided into three subgroups which are, the poor, very poor and extremely destitute. If the amount of money you make lies in any of the group, you can apply.

To be eligible for these privileges, you must define your family. You must define if your age, your physical state, your marital status and the number of people you live with in your home. This helps the housing department to evaluate whether you need the help or not.

To qualify for this program, you must provide the proof that you are a legal citizen of the country. This means that you have to show your identification card to the relevant authorities. Every member of your family must also be a citizen unless the constitution exempts some of them. This is done to keep away illegal immigrants who came into the country using devious means.

Every citizen has documentation showing the social security digits. To be qualified for this application, you and all the family members you live with must provide the government with a social security number. The only people who might be exempted are children whose age is below six years, and you should have the proof that they have not been assigned the number before.

Some forms are passed out to every family member who has attained the legal age of eighteen. They are called consent forms. The forms should be filled by those who are above that age including the family head and the spouse.

The background check will be conducted for all members that live in a particular home to identify if there is any among you has a criminal past. They will check the records in courts or the police to determine whether you are a law abiding citizen. If you are clean, then you are allowed to apply for housing. No offender can be given a government house.

To qualify for this application, the family head must show that even if he or she is a productive citizen who works at least twenty hours on a weekly basis. They should not have any unresolved debts that are more than sixty percent of what they get monthly.
