The worker has to carry the instruments on their person and move from place to place. Some of the equipment may be heavy, which makes it important to be physically fit.

Statistics show that about one in three photographers work on a part time basis. Hours of work are usually flexible to allow these workers to visit current and potential clients. Since photographers specialize in a certain field, the demand for certain types of photographs usually vary with the situation. For example, wedding photographers are usually on a higher demand during summer and spring.

Working as a photographer does not need any formal education. However, to secure better contracts, it is important to have a degree or other academic levels in photography. Having formal education increases the chances of securing employment and helps to improve skills. There are other routes that one may take to qualify to work. One may also have qualification in related fields and still qualify to work.

One can take a course in photography from various educational institutions, including community and junior colleges, universities, private technical schools, vocational-technical institutes, and private trade schools. There are many processes, equipment, and techniques covered in training courses. Some of the additional skills that one needs to be proficient in this field include business, marketing, and accounting.
