The cavachon is a cross breed between two other breeds being the King Charles spaniel and the Bichon Frise. The former is a sporting dog while the latter is a non sporting one, and so the resultant breed will be one of mixed temperament. Either you will get a lap loving dog or you will get one that is very aloof and independent. The more dominant trait will of course show up only when the dog gets much older.

On average the breed will cost you around an average of two hundred to five hundred dollars a puppy, and this can become much more if it comes from a respected breeder and kennel. Prepare to also pay a premium if the puppy you have in mind comes from two champion parents. Most first time owners sometimes try local shelters to get more affordable puppies of the breed if available.

Housebreaking will remain somewhat of a challenge for the new cavachon owner, as this is one for the more difficult breeds to housebreak. When compared to other breeds, this breed will take a bit longer to break, but the strategy of using the crate method seems to work well. One is enjoined to learn more about this method before getting the breed.

One can describe the coat of this dog as being usually silky, very soft and slightly wavy. It comes in a variety of color mixes that range the white, apricot and black and tan spectrums. Many owners prefer to get first generation mixes as these they say shed much less than later generations, although the breed itself is already an average shedder. Owners should brush the coat for thirty minutes at least once per day and give the dog a bath at least every six weeks.

Small space living is something that this breed is accustomed to. It adapts well to small apartments and urban living and lately has been known to be good travel companions as they adapt well to on the road travel and living. They can be good companions if you live in a recreational vehicle.

When having a cavachon there are a few health concerns that you should be aware of. It is prone to heart murmurs and flea allergies. Also they will be prone to ear infections due to hair growing in their ears. Ears should be cleaned at least once a week.
