How To Set Up A Mole Trap

By Brenda Bennett

Moles are some of the most destructive pests that can invade a compound or a farm. They are small in size and move through the ground. They also make their homes in the ground by digging tunnels through which they move. They can be very destructive to vegetation because they feed on roots, leaves, and fruits among other food sources. Setting a mole trap is one of the best ways to eradicate these animals.

Moles not only feed on plants but also on different varieties of insects. The most favorite meal for moles is insects. Moles therefore find it more favorable to stay on compounds inhabited by insects. Examples of insects they feed on include termites and ants. They cause land destruction by digging several tunnels through the landscape.

There are other methods that are used to trap moles. They include hunting, eradiating of source of their food and use of chemicals. In normal cases, chemicals are used together with baits. Therefore when the animal feeds on the poisoned food, it dies. Some people use this method since they are not aware of other methods. Poison works effectively, although it is not recommended.

Removing of sources of food from the field is also another method. This makes them to lack what to feed on. This may starve them to death. Thus, they may move to other places in search of food. This method is better off but one has also to make sure that the insects never return to avoid attracting moles again.

The use of moles is the best solution to this problem. When using traps, they are usually set at strategic locations where the animals frequent. After setting the traps one should check them several times in a week. If a mole is caught on the traps, it should be removed and the trap set again.

In the present days, traps exist in different types. The different types work in different ways. Some of the traps are made in a simple way while others are made in a complex way. The simple traps require no skills for one to set them up. On the other hand, the complex ones require skills . They need to be set up by a pro and especially one who has the experience in the job.

The cost of a trap is usually determined by the level sophistication in it. They may cost a lot of money in some cases. Different stores sell these traps at different prices. Therefore, one has to compare the prices from different stores before buying. It is usually to do price comparison before buying anything.

Several benefits are related to the use of traps for the eradication of moles. For starters, they are long lasting. This means that one can use traps without being depleted. The device can be economical in the long term although the initial cost might be higher. The trap is also advantageous in that it can be used in one place for a long time.
