All About Stain Cedar Fence OK

By Harold Wood

Cedar wood is beautifully reddish and highly durable, resistant to insects and really attractive addition to any home. Of course, if you do not protect cedar wood outdoor surfaces, they will lose their appearance in time, becoming grey and unappealing. When you need to stain cedar fence OK home supply stores offer everything you might need for this job.

If you have just installed your fence, you should wait for about two months before applying the stain. About that long is needed for the wood to become dry enough inside. After that period, you can simply clean it with water. If there are some stains on it, you can remove them with very mild solution of bleach and water, one part of bleach and five parts of water. Wash it all out with water.

When it comes to different products appropriate for this purpose, the best solution is to choose transparent or semi-transparent stains that are oil based. This way the wood will be adequately protected, and this natural red color will remain more or less visible, as well as the wood structure. Semi-transparent products are far more durable, but they contain more color pigments.

Calculate the amount of stain carefully. This amount will also depend on the wood texture. Rough, textured surfaces absorb more paint, and this is something you should put into your equation. On the other hand, maybe you will spend more paint on textured surfaces, but this way these surfaces will be far better protected, and you won't be needed to apply another coat for several years.

For coating, you should use a roller and a brush. Apply generous amount of paint on using a roller, and make all necessary corrections with a brush, making sure that all areas are equally coated, including hard to reach areas. Once you finish with the first coat, it might be time to apply the second one, depending on the instructions on your chosen product. Sometimes it might be needed to wait for 24 hours before starting with the second coating.

If your old cedar fence already became grey and unappealing, you should deep clean it first. The best equipment for this purpose is some high pressure washer. You don't have to buy it, if you don't have one. You can rent it in your nearest home supply store. It's not so expensive, and will save you a lot of trouble, when it comes to a fence cleaning.

Use a pressure washer to remove all the dirt and keep using it until all surfaces become reddish again. When everything is dry, it's time to start applying the paint. Use a roller and a brush, applying generous amounts of paint and making necessary corrections with your brush, carefully reaching all hidden corners as well.

Leave this first coat to dry for 24 hours, and then apply the second one. You will obviously need a little less material for this second coat, but you should still be quite generous with it. Once done, the stain will need additional 72 hours to become perfectly dry. Depending on the texture and the material, this procedure should be repeated every one to five years in average.
