Don't Forget Always Use Sun Tan Lotion

By Haywood Hunter

Finally it looks as though summer is trying to make an appearance. As usual at the first hint of sun, plenty of people will be outside trying to obtain a tan. So wherever there is sunshine, people are going to try and make the most of it, as everyone seems to feel healthier when they have a tan. Hopefully they will remember to apply a sun tan lotion.

A lot of people get sun tan lotions mistaken with sun screens. The good news is that you can purchase combination sun tan lotion and sun screen. The screening effect will help to protect you from the harmful ultra violet rays, whilst the tanning element works in conjunction with the bodies naturally occurring proteins to darken the skin's pigmentation.

Remember when shopping for a combination sun tan lotion, ensure that the letters SPF are present. This is the acronym for Sun Protection Factor. A lot of folk use an SPF of 20 as a good baseline, but if the number is higher the individual will discover they are able to withstand the direct sun's rays a lot longer.

After exposure to the sun, the skin starts to dry. This is more evident when you suffer from sun burn, as your skin feels as though it has shrunk. The skin can readily absorb the sun tan lotion. This sun tan lotion will help avoid the tightness and keep the skin supple.

If people are old enough they might just remember the slip, slop, slap campaign that originated in Australia in the 80s. It was designed to alert sun worshippers to the possible dangers from overexposure. It is still valid today, and worth reminding people that when out in the sun to slip on a shirt, slop on your sun screen and sun tan lotion, and slap on a hat.

It is not only aimed at people on the beaches, but also in their own backyards, and to those who work outside in the sun. All too often there are construction workers who have taken their shirts off while they are working in full sun. They are not trying for a tan, and because they are not using sun tan lotion will often just go red. This can have an adverse effect on their health as they can end up having to take time off of work due to sun burn.

Should you be one of the lucky ones able to sun bathe, by utilising a combination sun tan lotion you will be able to prolong your exposure. As a result these sun's rays will be working on your skin for longer. It works with something called melanin, which is the bodies natural sun block. The pigment within the skin steadily begins to darken, or tan.

Remember to reapply your sun tan lotion at regular intervals. There are sun tan lotions that are meant to be waterproof, and even if you are not going swimming the body itself will be sweating. So even the waterproof sun tan lotion will need reapplication.

So if you are looking forward to the sun, there are a few things to remember. Wear a sun tan lotion, and also regularly reapply it. A sun tan looks good, but sun burn doesn't.
