The Right Way To Use A Sunless Tanning Lotion

By Haywood Hunter

With the introduction of self tanner products, many people are now realizing the benefits they offer. These tanners are designed to transform the complexion and tint of skin without having to expose it to dangerous UV light. Always choose a sunless tanning lotion that works well with the skin. You will come across may self tanners in the market and you need to find the ones that can offer good results.

Exposure to UV light on skin can lead to effects some of which are life-threatening. Damaging UV light from the sun is associated with skin cancer. In addition, for you to obtain that tint which changes the look of skin, you will need to get sunrays exposure for an extended time. This increases the chances of damaging the skin.

However, you do not have to risk your body by exposing it to damaging UV light. Self tanner products can allow you to tint the skin and get the complexion you desire in a safer manner. Before you apply your lotion on skin, ensure you remove the thick hair that covers the areas you are tanning.

Presence of hair can prevent tan products from adhering to skin as desired. The hair may trap some of the tan and allow it to create streaks and too much orangey look. By shaving the hair, you clear the surface of any material that could affect the application of tan. You may want to shave and wax the legs and arms to make sure the final appearance looks great.

Some formulations may have harmful and damaging effects to skin. In addition, some of the formulations tint the skin immediately while others will build a tan slowly over several days or weeks. You may have some lotions what will offer a tint for a short time while other are long lasting and could take weeks before they fade away.

Exfoliation also helps remove that debris. At times, the hard skin such as the hands and elbows may need to be moisturized. Use of moisturizers is not recommended when you are tanning but since the rough and dry sections can impair absorption of tan, you can consider moisturizing only those parts. Dry your body completely before you use a tan to make sure that the lotion is not diluted.

If it is diluted by moisture on skin, it will drip and form streaks on the skin. Before you apply a tanning lotion, you can do a patch testing. This is a spot test procedure which allows you to do some experimentation to discover whether that product will work well on skin. You can apply on sensitive skin like the face but make sure you put it on a hidden part such as behind the ears.

However, not all body parts need to be moisturized. Only hard and dry parts can be moisturized. Before putting the tan on skin, make sure the body is dry. If you have taken a shower, allow your body to dry. Presence of moisture or wet areas can lighten the tan product and allow it to drip on surface of skin creating streaks and unsightly marks. These are some of the things you would want to look at when you are tanning your body using lotions.
