Tips On Technology Use In Early Education

By Jason Morgan

It is impossible for parents and the society to avoid bringing children in an environment where technology is intervening. Though it is claimed to almost take over parenting, there is a way it can be used to enhance early education. For parents, it will not be an intrusion but an opportunity to boost the intellect and intelligence of your kids.

Engage technology in your communication with the child and people around him or her. A lot of learning at an early age takes place through imitation. The reality is that children are watching you on the phone or typing away on gadgets. Use these gadgets to call relatives and where possible use videos. When they see their images and activities, they begin to associate technology with interesting things in their lives. This becomes a crucial learning point.

Transform technology as a tool for socialization and learning. Do not only give children phones and pads for entertainment purposes. Show the children photos of places they have visited, people they met and activities they engaged. Included videos to enable kids at a very young age to identify themselves. Once it becomes a tool, addiction to games and fun on the gadgets will end.

Get involved in technology use. Do not leave the children to play around and discover things alone. Technology is being used for babysitting. Other than giving the phone to the kid to make him or her keep quiet, engage him or her in the videos and photos. Explain to them what is on the screen and even play games with them. They will enjoy your shared technology time.

Technology gadgets should form a part of the entertainment schedule and not the only activity. Technology involves just sitting down for hours of screen time. There are more fun activities including reading books, building blocks, dancing, memorizing quotes and verses as well as acting plays, among others. This is a more realistic world and enables them to learn socialization. It also ensures that their lives are not limited to the use of gadgets.

Create boundaries for your children. The previous generation had limitations on how much television they can watch. These limitations are in terms of hours. Determine the time kids will have access to the gadgets and in what sense they will interact with them. The time should be designed to allow them enjoy their use and also give you the chance to participate. Ensure that the engagements they have with these gadgets are fruitful.

Be knowledgeable in terms of technology. This is the only way you will lead the pack. Research on the important apps and games for children to learn at different ages. Differentiate between apps that are meant for entertainment and those that will educate. Some perform both tasks. By learning beforehand, you can guide your child accordingly.

The choices you make should enhance the mental, social and physical health of your children. This technology must not interfere with family time or socialization. Take pride in your right and ability to say no. Learn the habits that are beneficial and will enhance the health of your kid.
