For Suboxone Treatment Groton CT Is Worth Visiting

By Mark Cole

With addiction reaching epidemic levels in the United States, several different approaches for treating this medical condition have been researched and unveiled. So many people are addicted to opioids that a quick solution is needed to prevent the country from becoming dysfunctional. There are many stakeholders in both the private and public sectors working around the clock to find ways of helping addiction patients. When in need of suboxone treatment Groton CT should be visited.

There is adequate funding and development of support systems to make sure that addiction patients get the help they need. Apart from the support system, there is a lot of research being done to find treatment for addiction. Also, laws have been amended to be more lenient to these patients. For instance, instead of having patients sent to prison for using illicit substance, they get admitted into facilities where they are treated for addiction.

Many medications which can be used in treating addiction have also been developed. Some of these medications are methadone and suboxone. The latter is the main medication used in treating addiction even though there are other alternatives. There are two different drugs incorporated in the medication. The first one is naloxone and the other one is buprenorphine. While buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist, naloxone is a full opioid antagonist.

With the two drugs contained in suboxone working together, patients cannot get high from using the drug. Burprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist that produces similar effects as illicit opioid substances such as heroin and cocaine, but on a much milder scale. Naloxone on the other hand is an opioid antagonist, which means that it reverses the effects of opioid agonist. Naloxone exists to minimize chances of misuse.

However, some people go to an extent of misusing medications that are meant to help them stop their addiction. Such people shift their addiction from using illicit drugs to using treatment drugs such as methadone. This comes as a result of having to use the drug for too long for one to wean completely from using illicit drugs.

Due to this, there are higher chances of patients developing dependence. This has been the major disadvantage related to using suboxone. It is hard to break dependence of the drug. As such, it is advised that patients taper their dosage with the help of a medical doctor. If dependence is stopped abruptly, it could trigger several negative effects, including withdrawal symptoms.

Using this medication does not come without side effects. There are numerous, separate side effects that emanate from naloxone and burprenorphine which are constituents of the medication. Muscles aches, constipation, fever, nausea and vomiting and irritability are some of the side effects of burprenorphine. Naloxone on the contrary causes sneezing, restlessness, fevers, body aches, nervousness, diarrhea, weakness and stomach pains.

Despite suboxone having such many side effects and possible dependence, it is the safest option patients have access to. Methadone is a full agonist and has a higher chance of causing dependence. If used according to prescription provided by a certified doctor, it should be able to help one stop their addiction.
