By Mike Johnson

Baked ziti is an incredibly delicious and tantalizing Italian cuisine and is basically a pasta dish. It is a very simple recipe that is as easy to prepare just like sugar cookies. It can be served with some bread and some light green salad. This wonderful dish will definitely be one of your family's weeknight favorites. Here is your chance to sample this amazing dish.

For the requirements for the ziti, you'll need Dried pasta, 450g; Quick marinara sauce, 825ml; Salt, 10g; Freshly grated and divided Parmesan, 75g; Mozzarella, 450g (one half cut into 1cm cubes and one half sliced thinly); Black pepper, freshly ground and Red pepper flakes (a pinch)

Take a 23cm by 33cm baking dish, oil it well and then pour in the pasta into it. The top of the pasta is then covered with the sliced mozzarella. Use the Parmesan that is remaining to sprinkle it over.

Bake till it is lightly browned. This will take approximately half an hour. Once it is ready, serve it immediately.

Requirements for marinara sauce are Extra-virgin olive oil, 2tbsp; Well diced medium sized onion; Canned tomatoes, 800g (peeled and chopped); Chopped cloves garlic (3); Salt, 12g; Fresh basil sprig; Fresh thyme sprig and Freshly ground black pepper.

Once this is done, remove the herb sprigs and discard them. Add in the salt and then season with pepper to taste. It can be used immediately or alternatively it can be covered and stored in a refrigerator for a period of up to 3 days.

Dispose the sprigs of herb after removing them from the saucepan. Add in the salt as you use pepper to season it and to improve the taste. The sauce can be used immediately or can be stored inside the fridge, although it can only last up to 3 days only. It can last for up to two months if it is frozen. Baked ziti in marinara sauce is a tasty dish that would become one of your family's comfort foods.
