Waterproofing the basement is something that is worth spending time on this as it can help with mold removal. There is health dangers associated with mold and the fungi that causes the problem. It is important that this problem is dealt with and not just ignored.

Prolonged exposure to molds can lead to respiratory problems and some can even give off toxic substances which are known as mycotoxin and in a few cases these have led to death and neurological disorders.

In some cases it may be necessary to get a profession in to treat the problem, however it is very important to sort the problem in order to protect the health of the people within the house. One of the first things that you should do is to waterproof the basement as this will help to keep the home free from mold.

The main idea of waterproofing in the basement it to stop the water getting in. Fungus thrives in areas that are damp therefore the main job is to ensure that there is no dampness anywhere within the home. To start with the water will have to be switched off so that the leaky pipes can be dried prior to powerful sealant being applied.

Another important thing to do is to check the walls for cracks. Cracks in the wall may be allowing water to seep into the basement. Repairing these cracks is really something that a professional should deal with as it can be a delicate job.

In order to sort the walls they may use epoxy which is of construction grade or another strong water sealant. Before the cracks can be sealed the cracks will need to be cleaned out and they will need to be filled with mortar prior to being sealed. This is only a couple of the many things that will need to be done for mold removal.
